According to the latest reports released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Land Valuation Index (LVI) compiled for the Colombo District has grown at a moderate pace of 5.9 percent in the first half of 2026 compared to the first half of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is noteworthy that all three sub-indices of the Land Valuation Index have shown an increase during this period. Under this, the prices of the residential land category have increased by 6.7 percent, the prices of the commercially important land category by 5.7 percent and the prices of the land category used for industrial purposes by 5.2 percent annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to official statistics of the Central Bank, the overall value of this index, which was prepared considering the first half of 2017 as the base year, has increased to 271.6 by the first half of 2026. The residential land valuation sub-index was recorded at 284.9, the commercial land valuation sub-index at 268.9 and the industrial land valuation sub-index at 261.0. These values show a significant increase compared to the index values of 273.1, 260.6 and 251.9 recorded in the second half of 2025 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On a half-yearly basis, the overall land valuation index recorded a growth of 3.7 percent in the first half of 2026 compared to the second half of 2025. Here, residential land prices have increased by 4.3 percent, commercial land prices by 3.2 percent and industrial land prices by 3.6 percent on a half-yearly basis. In this comparison, the data shows that the growth rate of the residential and industrial sub-indices has been faster in the first half of 2026 than the growth rates recorded in the second half of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
