In a historic milestone for Sri Lanka, Abdul Razak M. Muzammil has become the first Sri Lankan to be awarded the globally recognised CAMA² (Certified Asset Management Assessor) certification, setting a new benchmark for professional excellence in the country’s infrastructure and asset management sector.

The CAMA2 designation, conferred by the World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM), is widely regarded as one of the most advanced credentials in the field of asset management. It signifies elite-level expertise in ISO 55000 standards, asset lifecycle strategy, risk-based decision-making, and organisational asset performance evaluation.

This achievement is particularly significant at a time when asset management is becoming a critical global priority, driven by rapid infrastructure expansion, smart city development, and the increasing demand for sustainable, efficient, and data-driven operations.

In regions such as the Middle East, where mega infrastructure projects, airports, and smart city initiatives are rapidly evolving, the demand for globally certified asset management professionals has grown substantially. Countries across the Gulf are investing heavily in infrastructure resilience, digital transformation, and lifecycle asset optimisation—areas where CAMA2-certified professionals play a vital role in ensuring long-term value and operational excellence.

Similarly, for Sri Lanka, this milestone highlights an important shift. As the country continues to develop its infrastructure, energy, transportation, and public service sectors, the adoption of internationally aligned asset management practices such as ISO 55000 is becoming increasingly essential. Muzammil’s achievement therefore not only represents personal success but also signals the growing relevance of advanced asset management capabilities for Sri Lanka’s future development.

Muzammil currently serves as the Assets & CAFM Manager at Jeddah International Airport, where he leads critical operational domains including enterprise asset management, CAFM system governance, KPI performance monitoring, SLA optimisation, maintenance planning, and 24/7 Work Control Centre operations. His role directly contributes to maintaining the efficiency and reliability of one of the region’s busiest aviation hubs.

With over 14 years of international experience across leading airports in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dubai, he has consistently demonstrated expertise in managing complex, high-value infrastructure systems. He is also an IBM-certified Maximo Asset Management professional, recognised for leading full-cycle CAFM implementations that drive predictive maintenance, improve asset visibility, and enhance operational performance.

In addition to CAMA2, Muzammil is an IAM-certified professional through the Institute of Asset Management, further reinforcing his strong grounding in global asset management standards and strategic frameworks. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Information Systems with Business Management from the University of Westminster and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Management.

Beyond his professional achievements, Muzammil is the Founder of KVC Media and the Riaya Foundation, through which he is committed to long-term social impact. His strategic vision is to develop world-class professionals from his native village of Kuchchaveli in Trincomalee, with a strong focus on empowering rural youth through education, mentorship, and global exposure.

Kuchchaveli and Trincomalee can take immense pride in this remarkable achievement, as Muzammil has elevated the name of his hometown onto the international stage through his dedication and global recognition.

“My vision is to create world-class graduates in every home in my hometown and to nurture a generation of professionals who can lead on the global stage,” Muzammil shared.

His journey from Pudawaikkattu, Kuchchaveli to achieving global recognition stands as a powerful example of how determination, education, and vision can break geographical and social barriers.

As global industries continue to prioritise sustainability, digital transformation, and infrastructure efficiency, the significance of qualifications such as CAMA2 is expected to grow further. Muzammil’s historic achievement not only elevates Sri Lanka’s presence in the global asset management community but also serves as a catalyst for aspiring professionals to pursue internationally recognised standards and contribute to national development.
