A livelihood development programme aimed at promoting women’s self-employment was recently implemented in the Palamunai area, under the Addalaichenai Divisional Secretariat Division, through the 2026 Decentralised Budget allocation of Digamadulla District Member of Parliament M.S. Uthumalebbe.
As part of the initiative to strengthen the rural economy, 16 selected low-income families affiliated with the Husainiya Nagar (Palamunai-04) Women’s Rural Development Society (WRDS) were provided with indigenous (native) chickens to help improve their livelihoods.
The distribution programme, carried out at a cost of Rs.400,000, was held in Palamunai under the patronage of Addalaichenai Divisional Secretary A.C. Ahamed Afkar. The Chief Guest at the event was M.A. Ansar, Coordinating Secretary to the Member of Parliament and a retired school principal.
The project was launched under the direct supervision of the Planning Division of the Addalaichenai Divisional Secretariat and with the technical guidance of the Department of Animal Production and Health.
Among those present were Assistant Planning Director M. Jaufer, Accountant M.F. Farhan, Veterinary Surgeon A. Thaiyuba, Local Politicians, Community Development Officer for the Palamunai-04 Division, along with Divisional Secretariat Officials, representatives of the Women’s Rural Development Society, beneficiaries and other invitees
