The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) inaugurates the Financial Literacy Month – 2026 (FinLit Month) on 08 October 2026, commencing with “FinLit Expo – Colombo” at the Centre for Banking Studies, Rajagiriya. This national programme brings together a range of interventions across the island to strengthen financial knowledge, promote responsible financial behaviour and advance financial inclusion. Financial Literacy Month forms part of a broader national initiative under the Financial Literacy Roadmap for Sri Lanka, implemented under the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS).

FinLit Expo – Colombo, to be held on 08 and 09 October 2026, marks the commencement of this nationwide programme, which is a multi-stakeholder effort led by CBSL in collaboration with stakeholder institutions. The Expo provides opportunities for the public to engage with various institutions, enhance their understanding of financial services, gain practical insights into managing their finances, and explore how they can protect themselves from financial fraud and scams.

Following this, a series of events will be launched across the island to provide financial education to communities and encourage the application of financial knowledge in everyday life. These include six regional FinLit Expo events which are aimed at providing opportunities for direct engagement with local communities, together with awareness activities conducted in collaboration with stakeholder institutions.

A wider public awareness campaign through television, radio, newspapers and social media will reinforce these efforts and extend their reach. Recognizing the growing role of digital financial services, the programme includes digital financial literacy, QR and other online payment promotional activities.

Through Financial Literacy Month 2026, CBSL continues to fulfill its commitment towards financial inclusion and supporting informed participation in the financial system. CBSL encourages the public and stakeholder institutions to actively engage in the FinLit Month and join the national journey “Towards a Financially Literate Sri Lanka”.
