Sri Lankan Airlines joined forces with Maldives-based Manta Air to connect travellers from Gan Island to Koodhdhoo City in the Maldives to meet the diverse needs of the luxury travel segment, the national carrier said.

‘’The Maldives has always been a very important market to Sri Lankan Airlines, so the airline has continuously sought to enhance its portfolio of flights to the Maldives with a view to connect global travellers to this highly coveted holiday destination,” Dimuthu Tennakoon, Head of Worldwide Sales and Distribution of Sri Lankan Airlines said in a statement.

“Therefore, partnering with Manta Air will create new opportunities of travel for our valuable customers.”

Sri Lankan was the first airline to introduce international scheduled flights to Gan in late 2016, which later came to a momentary halt.

Since December 2021, weekly services have been initiated and from the 29th of March 2022, the frequency is scheduled to be increased to two weekly flights, due to anticipation in international leisure travel to the Maldives.

The new connecting flight, from Gan International Airport to Koodhdhoo City in Gaafu Alifu Atoll of Southern Maldives, is expected to connect many international tourists in the Maldives’ booming post-pandemic tourism industry.

The Maldivian Tourist Community makes up of Europe, North America, India, and the Far East. Sri Lankan Airlines was chosen for this initiative due to its flexible travel options via Colombo to both Male and Gan and the close proximity of Sri Lanka and Maldives.
