DIMO, a leading diversified conglomerate in Sri Lanka, was recently honoured with the coveted ISO 45001:2018 certification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the international accredited registrar and classification society. DNV is an independent expert in assurance and risk management, and this certification further assures and recognizes DIMO’s capability of providing a high standard in occupational health and safety.

Mr. Ranjith Pandithage, Chairman & Managing Director of DIMO, commented on this momentous occasion. “The strategic decision for the organization to implement an Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS), was made to ensure that the physical and mental well-being of the employees at work is continuously enhanced. The system minimises the risk of harm to the people that may be affected by work related activities. DIMO is committed to fuelling the dreams and aspirations of the communities it serves in, including its own employees, fondly known as the DIMO Tribe. DIMO ensures that the members of the DIMO Tribe remain safe and healthy, and firmly understands the need to improve their morale which in turn leads to exceptional performance. This certification certainly cements our dedication to ensuring that the staff is always well looked after.”

DIMO’s OHSMS was developed internally with the active participation and sharing of insights from representatives across all levels of employment. The organisation’s Compliance Department continuously develops, implements, and monitors the OHSMS to ensure its high performance and effectiveness.

The ISO 45001:2018 certification recognises the fact that DIMO’s OHSMS meets the necessary requirements and helps identify the possible hazards and risks that the organisation may face and helps eliminate the chances of those hazards occurring. Furthermore, it enables the organization to actively reduce the potential effects and impact of those hazards and operational risks as well.

DIMO’s position as a reputed industry leader, was elevated yet again with this latest certification which increases trust and enhances the company’s reputation. Furthermore, it will support sustainability initiatives and assist in increasing returns on investments. Additionally, the certification will also lower insurance premiums and assess risks and opportunities for the company. The certification also ensures the maintenance of minimum downtime, which increases overall productivity, eliminates any chance of disruption, and minimises operational costs. It also improves the organisation’s ability to respond rapidly and effectively to any regulatory compliance concern.

Operational Compliance plays an integral role in DIMO’s daily operations, as it ensures that the company and its employees adhere to all applicable policies, procedures, standards, laws, regulations, and ethical practices of the company.

DIMO’s quality management system is ISO certified since 2001 and is ISO 9001:2015 certified at present. The environmental management system, initially ISO certified in 2005, is currently ISO 14001:2015 certified. The OHSMS was implemented in 2021, further ensuring a better work environment for the valued employees of DIMO.
