Texas based non-profit organization Medical Bridges, together with Amelie and Daniel Linsey Foundation and Capital Trust Properties recently coordinated a donation worth over USD 200,000 of essential medical equipment for patients affected by Covid-19 and other illnesses at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The 40-foot container arrived in the Port of Colombo on the 27th of September 2022 and was received by the officials of the Ministry of Health and transported to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka – the largest public hospital in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan government has a free and universal health care system for all its citizens and an extensive network of public hospitals nationwide. Being severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the unprecedented economic and political crisis, the public health care system is in dire need of medical equipment and essential drugs.

Minoli Wickramasinghe, Managing Director of Capital Trust Properties shared her thoughts on the donation. “While such donations immensely enhance the quality of the health care offered to the valued citizens of our nation, it is not a sustainable solution. The need is to fundamentally change the operational model of the National Hospitals to ensure transparent and efficient systems where resources are optimized, thus uplifting the medical standards of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and all other Government Hospitals nationwide We are determined to ensure that this is the first of many future efforts to sustainably improve the public health care system of Sri Lanka.”

Speaking on behalf of the Amelie and Daniel Linsey Foundation, David Linsey stated, “We are proud to continue our work in what has been a trying time for Sri Lanka. We will do our upmost to help strengthen Sri Lankan medical care in memory of Amelie and Daniel.” The Amelie and Daniel Linsey Foundation was founded by David Linsey when his two siblings Amelie and Daniel tragically lost their lives during the Easter Sunday Attacks while on holiday in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Anver Hamdani of the Health Ministry thanked the Foundation for the contribution and also stated, “We are privileged to have the Amelie and Daniel Linsey Foundation, Medical Bridges and Capital Trust Properties coordinating a very worthwhile cause for the benefit of our nation during this challenging time.”
